Learn to Play Piano and Read Music
Hi, I’m James, a classical pianist living in NYC.
I offer private lessons to children, tweens, teens and adults, ranging from complete beginners to intermediate level.
My approach aims to build music reading fluency, technical skill, and musicality in a stress-free, enjoyable environment.
I teach online and in-person or a combination of these depending on your needs.
For in-person classes, I travel to your home or organization in NYC (including surrounding boroughs and some parts of Westchester County and NJ).
Lessons are customized for the individual student, whether you are seeking music exam preparation or fun and recreation.
I teach classical, pop, or rock and more – the choice is yours.
Make sure to check out the Performance page where I play my favorite pieces.

A positive learning experience
My classes aim to be fun. From my own experience learning and teaching piano, I’ve noticed that when students enjoy lessons, they are more likely to practice outside of class time and to stick with their lessons.
Based on this, I’ve developed games and tasks designed to motivate and build focus. This allows us to use class time most effectively. For even the most serious student, a sense of fun can be calming, help alleviate anxiety about playing, and build confidence.
Playing piano shouldn’t feel like a chore, which is why my lessons aim to build lifelong positive associations with piano and music in general.
Lessons designed for you
Lessons are customized to support your individual goals: from exam preparation to fun and recreation.
A flexible schedule means you can book a casual class, schedule weekly lessons, or commit to blocks of time.
I am a trained NYC Community Habilitation worker and comply with OPWDD requirements. I have experience teaching children with ADHD, autism diagnoses, and learning disabilities, and am available to work in a range of therapeutic contexts and settings.
